Manage FTP on a 1&1 Cloud Server With Plesk

Learn how to add and manage FTP users on a 1&1 Cloud Server with Plesk.

For any 1&1 Cloud Server with Plesk, administrative functions like managing FTP users should always be done using the Plesk interface.


  • A 1&1 Cloud Server with Plesk Onyx (any operating system)

This tutorial uses the Power User view. You can change the Plesk view by clicking Change View at the bottom of the column on the left.

Firewall Access

If you have a firewall, you will need to allow access to port 20 and 21.

Add an FTP User

Go to Websites & Domains.

Go to FTP Access for the website you want to manage.

Click Add an FTP Account.

Here you can select the options for the user.

Fill out:

  • FTP account name: The name they will use to log in with FTP.
  • Home directory: The "landing site" where the FTP user will be by default when they connect to the server. This is the root directory of the server (/) by default. You may want to change it to the root directory of the user's website (/var/www/
  • Password: Click Generate to generate a secure password for the user.

Click OK to create the user account.

After the user has been created, you can click their username at any time to edit their FTP settings.

Hi, on my new account, i try this method, but don't work, especially open port 20, i add the rule on firewall, but the port still closed
